Severna Park status as one of the top teams in the Southeast region was confirmed by the Maryland state championships, where the Falcons scored 56 points to win the Class 4A title as the meet returned for the first time since 2019.

Severna Park (US#20) put three runners in the top nine, led by fourth-place finisher James Glebocki, on the Hereford course in Parkton. The team split 45 seconds on five scorers. Walt Whitman was second with 95 points.

It was the fourth straight victory for Severna Park. In 2020, the team's only opportunity to compete was at the XC Town USA Meet of Champions in Indiana.

Luke Coffin of Annapolis, the younger brother of former two-time girls champion Maria Coffin (2015 and 2016) won the 4A boys title in 16:14.3. Coffin was 36th two years ago as a sophomore.

Sophomore Varri Higgins from Bethesda-Chevy Chase won the 4A girls race in 18:37.3. Walter Johnson put five runners between 14th and 29th place (35 seconds split) to win the team title with 80 points.

Howard put five in the top 11 of the 3A girls final and proved to be the best team in the state overall, averaging 19:33 for its scoring five -- a minute lower than the 4A champion. Howard, which won the 4A crown two years ago, stepped down in classification since then.

Caroline Gregory from Frederick won the 3A girls race in 18:35.6.

In Class 2A, Ethan Aidam from Oakland Mills ran 16:43.6 to win the boys final. Poolesville claimed the team title and put four runners in the top 10.

Daisy Dastrup of Poolesville won the girls race in 19:40.0. The Hereford girls took advantage of their home course and put four in the top nine on the way to the team win with 37 points.

John Condon of Cambridge South Dorchester won the 1A title in 16:55.2. Brunswick was the team winner with 55 points.

North Garrett retainted the 1A girls title with 47 points, led by individual winner Lydia Nelson, a sophomore, who won in 20:27.7.
